I don’t see what we could ever hope to get out of there with once we’re committed.  I don’t think it’s worth fighting for, and I don’t think we can get out.  And it’s just the biggest damn mess [remainder garbled, with Johnson and Bundy speaking at the same time].

When I heard this on CBS Sunday Morning, 2014-03-30 it shows that LBJ wasn’t at all the man we thought he was, as people chanted, “Hey. Hey. LBJ. How many kids did you kill today?”.  I sure wish he had found a way out of the morass on that day, instead of us having to have lost 50,000 troops.
