Following a misguided post from a headhunter I know (Lonny Gulden) to the Ruby Users of Minnesota (RUM) site — he was looking for Java developers — he was bounced off the list, and his privileges revoked as being inappropriate poster. Not being one to leave well enough alone, he flamed the group with the title of this post. After this outburst, which the group took with great glee, one of the members (Tony Collen) came up with the following logo, and it was immediately decided that everyone wanted to have t-shirts with it printed on the front.
The object of affection is none other Charles Nutter, one of the driving forces behind JRuby, a project to teach the Java Runtime Engine to interpret Ruby code.
