Ingredients
- 2 cups chopped dates
- 1½ cups boiling water
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2¾ cups flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 Tablespoon melted butter
- 2 cups granulated white sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla
- 1 cup chopped nuts
Method
- Put chopped dates in mixing bowl. Pour boiling water on them and add the soda. Set aside to cool.
- Mix together melted butter and sugar. Add beaten egg. Add to cooled date mixture then flour and salt.
- Add nuts and vanilla.
- Pour into 2 – 8 x 4 x 2½ inch bread tins place in a cold oven and bake for 2 hours at 350 degrees.
Always good with a little dab of cream cheese.
