Data-transfer rates just keep getting faster

A recent Internet2 experiment by scientists at the California Institute of Technology and CERN transferred data at a rate of 6.63 gigabits per second — the first test to break the 100-petabit meter per second mark.  The team hopes to have greater speeds in place by 2007, when CERN’s Large Hadron Collider goes online.
