Today, the help desk decided to help us out. To that end, they change some settings in active directory so that you couldn’t use tabs in Internet Explorer, and you couldn’t set your home page to what you wanted.
As is my wont, I pitched a holy fit about screwing with the developer productivity and the changes were magically rescinded.
The support manager said that they were trying to set desktop defaults, instead of having to keep them in the deployment images. A noble goal, but hello… test environment… before you launch them on the general populace.
And the one with tabbed browsing? Turns out the wording on the checkbox is backwards… good usability testing; but I’ve concluded that fooling with Active Directory is a little like filing your nails with a chainsaw.
Let’s be careful out there…
